A Welcome from the President
Welcome to the 2026 ADMI Symposium on Computing at Minority Institutions. This year’s theme, “Leveraging Artificial Intelligence in Learning, Teaching, and Research,” reflects both the urgency and the promise of ensuring that innovation in artificial intelligence is shaped by diverse voices, inclusive participation, and meaningful collaboration.
Greetings Colleagues, Students, and Partners,
It is my great honor to welcome you to the 2026 ADMI Symposium on Computing at Minority Institutions. As the newly elected President of the Association of Computer Science Departments at Minority Institutions, I am pleased to convene this distinguished gathering of students, faculty, researchers, and industry partners around this year’s important theme: “Leveraging Artificial Intelligence in Learning, Teaching, and Research.”
Artificial Intelligence is transforming how we educate, innovate, and solve complex societal challenges. From advancing scientific discovery to improving healthcare outcomes and expanding educational access, AI is redefining what is possible across disciplines. Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) play a vital role in ensuring that the future of AI is shaped by diverse perspectives and inclusive innovation.
The ADMI Symposium continues its longstanding tradition of providing a collaborative forum for showcasing faculty and student research, exchanging ideas, and strengthening partnerships that expand participation in computing. This year’s program highlights innovative applications of AI in education, cybersecurity, data science, human-computer interaction, and interdisciplinary research. The symposium also emphasizes mentoring, graduate school preparation, and research capacity building, reflecting ADMI’s mission to increase the number of minority computer scientists and computing professionals.
I extend sincere appreciation to the board of directors, program committee, local arrangements committee, organizing committee, sponsors, speakers, and volunteers whose dedication has made this symposium possible.
As we engage in dialogue, share research findings, and build new partnerships, I encourage each participant to take full advantage of the opportunities for learning, collaboration, and professional growth that this symposium provides. On behalf of the ADMI Board of Directors, thank you for your continued commitment to advancing computing education and ensuring that HBCUs and MSIs play a leading role in shaping the future of artificial intelligence.
Faithfully,
Alfred R. Watkins
